Short Writeup on Talk: Today the large part of developer community is churning out applications that are adhoc need based. A lot of code also gets rewritten as its proprietary base rendered it useless when it came to the issue of interoperability with other applications. A strong need is now being felt for evolving applications that are componentized based on the services that they offer and are loosely couple such that they can be plugged into different other building blocks. In short are based on architecture that is interoperable. The first part of presentation will focus on these issues and why it is important for developers to start working on tools based on open standards; it will also be using a few standards examples that will throw light on how use of open standards makes their application more interoperable.

Also, Open Source and Open Standards communities are a well organized units operating in a virtual environment and governed by a set of directives identified by the Open Community itself. The organizations on the other hand are led by their objectives as defined in their missions and vision. However, looking at the emergence of strong open communities they are feeling a strong need to participate in the Open movement. However, are facing the issues of IPR management. The presentation will focus on why it is important for organizations to participate in these open communities and how can they manage the IP contributions from their employees in the form of codes / schemas. The second part of presentation will focus on some of the key considerations for contributions to Open Standards development.
