Topic: Issues & Challenges in Software Reliability for Component-based Software Systems. On Friday, 31st August, 2007 Time: 18:15 - 19:45 hours. (High Tea included). Venue: Computer Society of India, Bangalore Chapter, NO.201, IInd Floor, MBC Complex, Infantry Road, Bangalore-560001. Phone: 22860461/22862215. Short Write-up on Talk: Component-based design is being prevalently used for developing safety-critical and highly-reliable software applications/systems. It is evident that performing reliability estimation and prediction of such systems at an early stage would help in delivering high quality and reliable software applications/systems. In this talk, I will first introduce the concept of software reliability and its implication on component-based software. I will then present some recent advances in this area. Profile of Dr Purnendu Sinha: Dr. Purnendu Sinha is a Principal Scientist at Philips Research Asia, Bangalore (PRA-B). At PRA-B, he leads a cluster called Reliable healthcare Solutions and Technologies (ReST), which conducts research in the area of software engineering addressing issues pertinent to SW platforms used in medical systems and consumer-electronics applications. Prior to joining Philips, he held faculty positions at the Indian Institute of Information Technology at Bangalore as an Associate Professor, and as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Purnendu Sinha obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Boston University, Boston, MA. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. He is a member of the ACM and the Institution of Engineers (India). He holds a Professional Engineering license in the state of Ontario, Canada. His research interests include component-based software engineering, software testing, software reliability and formal-methods-based verification and validation of distributed dependable and real-time protocols. |
